I recently had to change to a new router/modem combo and now my printer won’t connect. I know that I need to change the printer IP address, but can’t find where to do that. I have been in every app and setting I know to look in. Help.

Hi @StraceG,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To connect your HP printer to the new network, you'll need to update its IP address to match the new router/modem settings. Here are the steps to do this:

Print a Network Configuration Report:

  • On your printer's control panel, press the Menu button.
  • Navigate to Network > Network Configuration.
  • Print the Network Configuration Report to view the current network settings, including the IP address.

Access Wireless Network Settings:

  • Navigate to the Network setting on the printer's menu.
  • Depending on your printer model, you might find options labeled as Wi-Fi Settings or TCP/IP settings.

Change the IP Address:

  • For IPv4 Configuration, choose DHCP to allow your router to assign a new IP address automatically.
  • Ensure the printer is searching for a new IP address from the router, or manually configure it if necessary.

Wireless Network Setup:

  • If you prefer a wire-free setup, use Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) if supported by your printer and router:
    • On the printer, go to Network > Wi-Fi > WPS.
    • Press the WPS button on your router within two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use the HP Smart App to configure network settings.

Using HP App:

Use HP Embedded Web Server for Advanced Settings:

  • Access the HP Embedded Web Server by entering the printer's current IP address in a web browser.
  • Log in as an administrator, and use the Network Settings tab to manually configure network settings, including the IP address.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
