I came home to find my HP ENVY 6455e has disconnected from the WiFi and is not reconnecting. I’ve turned off the router, printer, unplugged, replugged and still nothing. I even pressed the WiFi button in the back. Any advice?

I know how frustrating it is when your printer suddenly drops off the network and refuses to reconnect, especially after trying all the usual resets. Let’s go through the most effective steps for your HP ENVY 6455e:

Why This Happens

  • The printer lost its network credentials after a power cycle.
  • Router changed SSID or security settings.
  • Firmware glitch preventing reconnection.


Step 1: Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode

On the printer:

  1. Press and hold the Wireless button (or Wi-Fi icon) and the Cancel button together for 5 seconds.
  2. The Wireless light should start blinking. This means the printer is in setup mode.


Step 2: Reconnect Using HP App

  1. On your phone or PC, download the  HP app: HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site
  2. Open the app → Tap Add Printer → Follow prompts to connect to your Wi-Fi. 
    • Make sure your device and printer are on the same 2.4 GHz network.


Step 3: Check Router Settings

  • Ensure MAC address filtering is off.
  • If you recently changed the Wi-Fi name or password, update it in the printer via the HP app.


Step 4: Update Printer Firmware

  • In HP Smart, go to Printer Settings → Advanced Settings → Firmware Update.
