Wireless printer MW234sdwe wouldn't reconnect to internet after a change in router name, could not get it to connect wirelessly to my MacBook so I plugged it into my Mac book, and it worked for awhile.  Now it will not connect with the router.  There is an exclamation point in orange blinking at the top of the printers screen, and the information and the internet indicator are both blinking all the notice (from pressing information) says is, "printer cannot print util it is connected to the Internet.

Hi @worry99

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it feels when the printer refuses to reconnect after a router name change, especially since you’ve already tried plugging it into your MacBook and saw it work for a while.

The blinking exclamation and network lights confirm the printer is waiting for a proper wireless setup.

Let’s focus on the areas that most often cause this situation.

Steps to restore wireless connection

1. Reset the printer’s wireless settings

  • On the printer’s control panel, press and hold the Wireless button until the light blinks.
  • This resets the wireless configuration and puts the printer into setup mode.

2. Reconnect using the HP App

  • Open the HP App on your MacBook.
  • Select Add Printer or Set Up a New Printer.
  • Follow the prompts to connect the printer to your Wi‑Fi network.
  • Make sure you enter the updated router name (SSID) and password correctly.

3. Confirm router compatibility

  • Ensure the printer is connecting to the 2.4 GHz band of your router.
  • Many printers do not support 5 GHz networks, so if your router broadcasts both, select the 2.4 GHz option.

4. Verify IP address assignment

  • Print a Network Configuration Page by pressing the Information button on the printer.
  • Check if the printer has a valid IP address.
  • If it shows 0.0.0.0 or 169.x.x.x, it means the router is not assigning an address. Restart the router and try again.

5. Update printer firmware

  • Visit the official HP support page for your model:
    HP Printer Drivers and Software
  • Download and install the latest firmware update.
  • Firmware updates often improve Wi‑Fi stability and compatibility with newer routers.

6. Test printing

  • Once connected, try printing a test page from the HP App.
  • If successful, the blinking lights and “waiting for connection” message should clear.

If the issue continues

  • Try connecting the printer via USB temporarily to confirm it prints correctly.
  • If USB printing works, the issue is limited to wireless setup and can be resolved by re‑establishing the Wi‑Fi connection.

You’ve already been very patient in working through this. The most effective immediate action now is to reset the wireless settings and reconnect through the HP App, making sure the printer is on the 2.4 GHz band.
