Hi @Bamabill51

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how inconvenient it feels when your Android phone refuses to recognize the printer while your iPhone connects without trouble. You’ve already noticed the difference across devices, and I appreciate the effort you’ve put into testing.

Let’s walk through the steps to restore smooth printing from your Android phone to your HP 7900 series printer.

Steps to Connect Android Phone to HP Printer

Check Wi-Fi Connection

  • Ensure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Android phone.
  • On the printer’s control panel, confirm the wireless icon is lit and steady.
  • If needed, reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi using the Wireless Setup Wizard.

Install the HP App

  • On your Android phone, open Google Play Store.
  • Search for and install the HP App.
  • Open the app and sign in with your HP account.
  • Tap “Set up a new printer” and follow the prompts to detect your printer.

Enable Location and Permissions

  • On your Android phone, go to Settings > Apps > HP App > Permissions.
  • Ensure Location and Wi-Fi permissions are enabled.
  • Location services must be turned on for the app to discover nearby printers.

Add Printer Manually (if not detected)

  • In the HP App, tap “Add Printer.”
  • Enter the printer’s IP address (found on the printer’s network configuration page).
  • This forces the app to connect even if automatic detection fails.

Check Android Print Service

  • Go to Settings > Connected devices > Printing.
  • Ensure “HP Print Service Plugin” is installed and enabled.
  • If not, download it from Google Play Store.
  • Once enabled, your printer should appear in the list of available devices.

Restart Devices

  • Restart both the printer and your Android phone.
  • After reboot, open the HP App again and attempt connection.

Update Printer Firmware
