HP ENVY printer 5530- there is an authentication that is not allowing me to connect the printer to the router.
I have disconnected and reconnected everything on the printer, reset the modem, called my IP and have new password for the modem. Reset printer after going back to factory settings with the new password. I have run the diagnostics, and nothing is identified.
Nothing works.

Hi @eskiedoc,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you've tried a comprehensive set of troubleshooting steps. Here are a few more suggestions that might help resolve the authentication error:
Check Router Settings:
- Ensure your router's firmware is up-to-date.
- Make sure the router is set to broadcast on a compatible frequency (2.4 GHz for many older printers).
- Ensure that the router's security settings are compatible with the printer (WPA2 is generally recommended).
Manually Connect the Printer to Wi-Fi:
- From the printer’s control panel, navigate to the wireless setup wizard.
- Manually enter the network name (SSID) and password. Double-check for any typos, especially in the password.
Printer Firmware Update: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure the printer's firmware is up-to-date. You can usually check for firmware updates on the HP support website.
IP Address Conflicts:
- Make sure there are no IP address conflicts on your network. Assign a static IP address to the printer from your router’s settings.
Network Reset:
- Reset your network settings on the printer. This can sometimes clear out any residual settings that might be causing conflicts.
Firewall/Security Software:
- Temporarily disable any firewall or security software on your router to see if it’s blocking the printer’s connection.
Different Network:
- Try connecting the printer to a different Wi-Fi network (such as a mobile hotspot) to see if it connects successfully. This can help determine if the issue is with the printer or the router.
HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP support website. This tool can automatically diagnose and fix many common printer connectivity issues.
Refer to this document: HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer series User manual
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
