Hi @Offtrail,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the issue with HP Smart or the Scan function for your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M183fw on Windows 11, follow these steps.

Check Printer Connection

Ensure your printer is properly connected to your computer via USB or is on the same Wi-Fi network.

Install/Update Printer Driver

  1. Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads.
  2. Enter your printer model (HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M183fw) and select your operating system (Windows 11).
  3. Download and install the latest full-featured driver and software package.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and resolve any issues.

Reinstall HP Smart App

  1. Uninstall the current HP Smart app from your computer.
  2. Go to the Microsoft Store.
  3. Search for and reinstall the HP Smart app.
  4. Open the HP Smart app and add your printer again.

Configure Scan Settings

  1. Open the HP Smart app.
  2. Click on the printer icon to open the printer settings.
  3. Go to the "Scan" tab and configure the scan settings.

Use Windows Scan App

  1. Open the Microsoft Store.
  2. Search for and install the "Windows Scan" app.
  3. Open the Windows Scan app, select your printer, and try scanning.

Troubleshoot Windows 11 Settings

  1. Open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Ensure your printer is listed and set as the default printer.
  3. Click on your printer and then click on Manage.
  4. Check if there is a "Scanner" option listed. If not, try adding your printer again.

Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings

  1. Ensure that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking the HP Smart app or the scan function.
  2. Temporarily disable the firewall or antivirus and check if the issue is resolved.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Allen,

Thank you for this process. I assume the first step, "download the latest full-featured driver and software package" is mission critical.

That package for my printer is "Full_Webpack-44.11.2784-LJM182-M185_UWWL_4_1_Full_Webpack".

I have been trying to install for the past 3 days. Followed every idea and suggestion I could find: uninstalled AVG programs, reduced as much of Defender as I could, added all the HP printer ports, etc, etc. It downloads fine, opens and says all data has been transfer, then a smaller white blank window opens and never goes away but warns you not to close. I  left it open all night once, no change. Did this more times then I care to admit....after each implemented suggestion.

I have AVG and Defender back at full speed. Printer working but requires extra steps to scan and sometimes print.

Thank you,

Offtrail
