cannot add MFW 1202w to Mac 0S15 Printers & Scanners

There are so many fails in my attempt to put this printer on line and accessible to my Macbook running OS 15.5

1) can't locate the printer under Printers & Scanners

2) Cannot locate the printer via Verizon home router

3) it has an old SSID that I want to remove and replace with this home router

4) I cannot add printer via HP Smart -- it cannot locate the printer

5) yes, the printer is on

6) yes there is a blinking blue light. Alternatively there is a non-blinking amber light

7) I have tried to restarting computer and printer -- no changes to above

Please help. This should not be hard but it is. Would help ENORMOUSLY if HP had phone service of some kind. That's the biggest fail of all.
