Hi @buz1935

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the situation so clearly—I’m really sorry the printer stopped communicating and now won’t reload. You’ve done the right thing by removing it and trying to reconnect.

Let’s walk through a clean reinstallation path to restore full functionality between your HP Envy 7640 and HP Envy x360.

Step-by-step actions to reinstall HP Envy 7640 and restore communication

1. Prepare the printer connection

  • Power on the printer and ensure it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer
  • If using USB, disconnect the cable for now—we’ll reconnect it later during setup
  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard and confirm connection

2. Remove any remaining printer entries from Windows

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners
  • Remove any instance of HP Envy 7640
  • Restart your computer

3. Download and install the full driver and software package

  • Visit the official HP support page:
HP Envy 7640 Drivers and Software
  • Select your operating system (Windows 11 or 10)
  • Download the HP Easy Start or Full Software Solution
  • Run the installer and follow on-screen instructions to detect and install the printer

4. Add the printer manually if needed

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners > Add Device
  • Wait for HP Envy 7640 to appear
  • Select it and complete the setup
  • If prompted, choose Use HP App for management

5. Print a test page

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click HP Envy 7640 > Printer Properties > Print Test Page

Let me know how the printer responds after these steps. You’re doing everything right by staying proactive, and I’ll be here to help restore smooth printing.
