Cartridge or Account Error. I have been trying to fix this for months, and now we are at the point where the Printer will not print! It has not synced since October 2025. I have checked my WIFI and Wi-Fi Direct, and they are both connected. I have unplugged my router, my computer, and the printer. No luck. I have uninstalled my apps, and my computer from my devices. I have reloaded the device. Of course, it is the same serial number, so the same message. I have updated my credit card information, though payment has not been an issue (that part works just fine). I have ensured my firmware is up to date, and, oddly enough, the HP Smart app says I am connected. I have lost hours of work time today and can not print out the reports I really need. I am at my wits' end! What can be done. I even cancelled Instant ink and bout $100 worth of HP cartridges hoping to cancel the account. Of course it won't be cancelled until Feb. 1st. SMH.

Update: found a post about this and solved by setting back to factory default! It works! 🙂

Hi @JaneM4,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your printer. I would request you to please follow the below steps to resolve the issue.

Reset the Printer:

  • Open the cartridge access door or lid of your printer.
  • Remove the ink cartridges from their slots.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the power source as well.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on.
  • Reinsert the ink cartridges and close the cartridge access door.

Check Cartridges:

  • Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges.
  • Inspect the cartridges for any protective tape left on the nozzles or contacts and remove it if present.
  • Clean any dust or ink residue from the contacts using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Check HP's support website for any available updates for your model.

Reinstall the Printer Software:

  • Uninstall the printer software from your computer.
  • Download and install the latest version from HP's support site for your printer model.

Take care and have an amazing day!
