Can't change my officejet 4650 from USB to wireless. The printer and desktop are on the same network.  HP SMART is not helping.  It was connected wireless before.  Can someong provide  step by step instructions?

I had it working wireless for years.  I thougt I had a printer jam, however the print spooler was the problem. Since then I can't connect wireles.

Please help.

Hi @Mitty66

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

Your HP OfficeJet 4650 can be switched back from USB to wireless by re‑running the wireless setup directly on the printer’s touchscreen.  I agree that the print spooler was the problem.

Since then you can't connect wireles. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on the printer https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/ish_3967769-3956733-16

Wi-Fi setup mode allows your printer to accept a new Wi-Fi connection from the HP app. When Wi-Fi setup mode is active, the Wireless icon or Wireless light on the control panel blinks until a connection is made or two hours pass.

  • Most printers with a touchscreen display or menu: Open the Wireless  or Setup  menu, select Network setup or Settings, and then select Restore Network Settings.

  • Most printers without a touchscreen display or menu: Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons for five seconds or until the Wireless light or icon blinks. If the Wireless light or icon does not blink, go to Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer for instructions that work with your model of HP printer.

Install the HP app

Use the HP app to set up the printer on the Wi-Fi network and with your computer or mobile device.

  1. Open the HP app, and then create an account or sign in. If you do not have the app, download it from 123.hp.com or your app store.

  2. Within 2 hours of restoring Wi-Fi setup mode, follow the guided steps in the HP app to add the printer and set up the wireless connection.

For more information, go to HP printer setup (HP app).

Take care and have an amazing day!
