Hi @Mlmmomma,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your computer and printer are not communicating, so you’re unable to print your documents. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and get them talking again.

Check the printer’s connection status

Make sure the printer is powered on and shows no error lights.

If using Wi-Fi, confirm the wireless light is solid blue.

If using USB, ensure the cable is firmly connected on both ends.

Confirm both devices are on the same network (Wi-Fi printers)

On your computer, check the Wi-Fi network name.

On the printer, print a Network Configuration Page and verify the network name matches.

Set the printer as default

Go to Settings → Devices → Printers & Scanners.

Select your printer and click Set as default.

This ensures jobs are sent to the correct printer.

Clear the print queue

Select your printer → Open print queue.

Cancel all pending documents.

Restart the printer afterward.

Restart printer and computer

Turn off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.

Restart your computer.

Turn the printer back on and wait until it’s fully ready.

Check printer status (Online/Offline)

In Printers & Scanners, select your printer and open the queue.

Make sure Use Printer Offline is not selected.

Reinstall the printer

Remove the printer from Printers & Scanners.

Restart the computer.

Add the printer again using Add printer or scanner or the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.
