Hi @hmwrightx5,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP LaserJet 1020 printer is an older model that does not have built-in Wi-Fi capabilities. However, you can still connect it to your MacBook Air running macOS Ventura 13.4 using a few different methods. Here's how you can do it.
USB Connection (Recommended): The most straightforward way to connect your HP LaserJet 1020 to your MacBook Air is through a USB connection. Follow these steps:
- a. Power off your printer and MacBook Air.
- b. Connect the printer to your MacBook Air using a USB cable. Ensure that the cable is properly connected to both the printer and your MacBook Air.
- c. Power on your printer and MacBook Air.
- d. macOS should automatically detect the printer and install the necessary drivers. You may see a pop-up or notification confirming the printer installation.
- e. Once the printer is recognized and the drivers are installed, you should be able to print from your MacBook Air without any additional configuration.
Print via a Print Server (if available): If you have a network-enabled print server or a wireless print adapter compatible with the HP LaserJet 1020, you can connect your printer to your Wi-Fi network. Then, you can add the networked printer to your MacBook Air. This method requires additional hardware and setup, so make sure your printer is compatible with such devices.
Use a Print Sharing Computer (Advanced): If you have another computer on your network (Windows PC or macOS) that is already connected to the HP LaserJet 1020 through USB, you can share the printer over the network. Here's how:
- a. Connect the printer to a computer: Make sure the HP LaserJet 1020 is connected to another computer via USB.
- b. Share the printer: On the computer to which the printer is connected, share it on the network. In macOS, you can do this by going to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners," selecting the printer, and checking the box that says "Share this printer on the network."
- c. Add the shared printer on your MacBook Air: On your MacBook Air, go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners." Click the "+" button to add a new printer. Your shared printer should appear in the list of available printers. Select it and click "Add."
- d. You should now be able to print to the HP LaserJet 1020 from your MacBook Air through the shared connection.
Remember that the HP LaserJet 1020 is an older printer, and its compatibility with modern macOS versions may be limited. If none of the above methods work, you might need to consider using a newer printer with built-in Wi-Fi capabilities for easier wireless printing.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
