HP LaserJet MFP M140we Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

It won't connect to a network it has been connected to. I did the setup procedure in the app. It shows Error 75 (after I installed a new cartridge, which should have nothing to do with it). The app troubleshooter did nothing. No clear instructions in the manual to fix.

Hi @Lloyd,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP LaserJet MFP M140we is showing Error 75 and won’t connect to the network even though it was previously working, especially after installing a new cartridge. Let’s go through some steps to troubleshoot this:

Power Cycle the Printer

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall.

Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Sometimes, Error 75 can be a temporary communication or memory glitch.

Check the Toner Cartridge

Remove the new cartridge and inspect for protective tape or packaging that might still be on it.

Reinstall the cartridge firmly, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

Error 75 can sometimes appear if the printer thinks the cartridge is missing or improperly seated.

Reset the Printer

Press and hold the Power button for 10–15 seconds until the printer restarts.

This can clear residual errors in memory.

Check Network Connection

Ensure your printer is in range of the Wi-Fi network and the network is functioning.

If using Wi-Fi Direct, try reconnecting through HP Smart app.

Make sure your firewall or router settings are not blocking the printer.

Update Firmware

If the printer can temporarily connect to USB, use HP Smart or Embedded Web Server to check for firmware updates.

Installing the latest firmware can fix Error 75, which is sometimes related to software glitches.

Try USB Setup Temporarily

Connect the printer via USB and complete the setup in HP Smart.

Once the printer is recognized, try switching back to the Wi-Fi network.

Factory Reset (if issue persists)

From the printer control panel: Settings → Printer Maintenance → Restore Factory Defaults.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi after the reset.

I hope this helps.
