Hi @Phil19611,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The “Network Key” prompt is asking for your Wi‑Fi password, but there are a couple of common pitfalls that can make it fail even if you’re entering the right one. Let’s walk through the fixes step by step:

 1. Confirm the Correct Wi‑Fi Password

The network key = Wi‑Fi password for your router.

Make sure you’re entering the password for the 2.4 GHz band (many HP printers don’t support 5 GHz).

Double‑check capitalisation and special characters — passwords are case‑sensitive.

2. Printer Wi‑Fi Reset

On the printer, press and hold the Wireless button until the light blinks.

This resets the wireless settings and puts the printer into setup mode.

Now try reconnecting from your notebook.

3. Use HP Smart App

Install the HP Smart app (Windows, iOS, Android).

The app guides you through connecting the printer to your Wi‑Fi and avoids manual password entry errors.

Once connected, the notebook should see the printer automatically.

4. Check Router Settings

Ensure your router isn’t set to hide the SSID (network name).

If MAC address filtering is enabled, add the printer’s MAC address to the allowed list.

If you recently reset your PC, make sure it’s on the same Wi‑Fi network as the printer.

5. Alternative Connection

If Wi‑Fi setup keeps failing, connect via USB cable temporarily.

Then run HP Smart to configure wireless settings from the PC.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
