My printer can not connect to the wifi, no IP

The error code 0xB87DE646 on your HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer typically indicates a Wi-Fi connection failure, often due to the printer not obtaining an IP address from your router. Let’s try to fix it on macOS 11 Big Sur:

1. Restart Everything

  • Turn off your printer, Mac, and router.
  • Wait 30 seconds.
  • Turn on the router first, then the printer, then your Mac.


2. Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode on the Printer

This puts the printer back into a state where it can connect to a new network.

  • On the printer, press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons together for 5 seconds.
  • The Wireless light will blink, indicating setup mode is active.

3. Use the HP Smart App to Reconnect

  • Download or open the HP Smart app on your Mac:
    🔗 HP Smart for macOS
  • Click “+” to add a printer.
  • Follow the prompts to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

⚠️ Make sure your Mac is on the same 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network — the ENVY 5055 does not support 5 GHz.


4. Print a Wireless Network Test Report

  • On the printer, press the Information (i) button.
  • This will print a report showing connection status and IP address.
