Please help.  I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong spot.  I have a DeskJet2852e.  I'm trying to print specific things on a page, instead of printing the entire page.   I tried printing the parts I highlighted, but what happens is, the entire page prints instead.   I just want to print the text I highlighted.  That way I can save on ink.  Is there a way to print only the parts I highlight?  I'm new to modern printers so please forgive me!

Hi @handlewithcare, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
No problem! Your HP DeskJet 2852e doesn't have a built-in function to print only highlighted text, but you can still do it using a few workarounds.

Print Selection (Works in Most Apps)

If you're highlighting text in a document or webpage, follow these steps:

  1. Highlight the text you want to print.
  2. Right-click on the highlighted text and look for a “Print” option (works in some apps).
  3. If no print option appears, press Ctrl + P (Cmd + P on Mac) to open the print menu.
  4. Look for "Print Selection" (this option may be under "More settings" in some applications).
  5. Click Print.

🔹 Note: If "Print Selection" isn't available, try another method below.

Copy & Paste to a New Document

  1. Highlight the text you want.
  2. Press Ctrl + C (or Cmd + C on Mac) to copy.
  3. Open Notepad, Word, or any text editor.
  4. Press Ctrl + V (Cmd + V on Mac) to paste the text.
  5. Press Ctrl + P (Cmd + P on Mac) to print.

🔹 Best for: Emails, PDFs, websites, or documents without a "Print Selection" option.

Use a Browser Extension (For Webpages)

If you need this feature often for web pages, try:

  • PrintFriendly & PDF (for Chrome/Edge/Firefox)
  • Simple Print Button (for Chrome)

These let you select and remove unnecessary content before printing.

Use "Snipping Tool" (For Images or PDFs)

If you're working with a PDF or an image:

  1. Open Snipping Tool (Windows) or Screenshot (Mac).
  2. Select the area with your highlights.
  3. Save and print just the captured section.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Whoa!  That was an incredibly detailed, professional and excellent answer.  It looks like the first two methods you mention are my best options.  I will try them later and see what happens, thank you!!!  🙂
