HP OfficeJet 8122e All-in-One Printers
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,
Hp81203 printer will not connect wirelessly to print: did setup on printer and installed smart print on desktop.  disconnected ethernet cable since it was stated tyou cannot have it connected to print wirelessly.  Software says online, but when you try to print, dialog box indicates its offline.  Tried troubleshooting via steps and the software, but will still not connect.  even tried printing with the hp email and that did not work either.  tried diagnosing through smart phone- states cannot find printer.  Even though the password is on printer and printer claims connected wiirelessly.  Have used this website to try and troubleshoot too- but still the only way to get anything to print- is by having it connected via ethernet cable.  Anyone else have this same issue, and found a solution?

Hi @edabrass,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with wireless connectivity issues for your HP OfficeJet 8122e printer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Basic Checks

Network Configuration:

  • Ensure your printer and computer (or device) are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Check that the Wi-Fi network is functioning properly by connecting another device (like a smartphone or tablet) to it.

Printer Display:

  • On the printer's control panel, navigate to Setup > Network > Wireless Settings. Verify that the printer shows it is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.

Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi

Reset Wireless Settings:

  • On the printer, go to Settings > Network > Wireless > Restore Network Defaults. This will reset the wireless settings on the printer.
  • Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network using the setup process again.

Use the HP Smart App:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your desktop or smartphone.
  • Follow the prompts to add your printer again. This can often help establish a wireless connection more easily.

Update Software and Drivers

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. Check for updates via the HP Smart app or on the HP support website.

Check Drivers:

  • Make sure you have the latest drivers installed on your computer. You can download them from the HP Drivers & Software page.

Advanced Troubleshooting

Network Discovery:

  • If you’re using Windows, go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings. Ensure Network discovery and File and printer sharing are turned on.

Disable Firewall/Antivirus Temporarily:

  • Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can block printer connections. Temporarily disable them to see if this resolves the issue. Remember to enable them afterward.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. It can help diagnose and fix common printing issues, including connectivity problems.

Factory Reset

  1. Factory Reset the Printer:
    • If all else fails, consider performing a factory reset on the printer. Refer to the user manual for instructions on how to do this. After the reset, you will need to set up the printer again.

Note:

  • Check for Interference: Ensure that there are no devices nearby that could interfere with the Wi-Fi signal (like microwaves or cordless phones).
  • Router Settings: If you have access to your router's settings, ensure that MAC address filtering is disabled, as this can prevent devices from connecting to the network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
