HP DesignJet T630 36-in Printer
iOS

I have an HP t630 and when I change the paper the printer is not detecting the correct paper type and size. I have removed the app reinstalled it, restarted my Macbook, unplugged the printer turned it on and off several times, unloaded and reloaded he paper and nothing seems to be working.

Hello,

Before I give you a direct resolution, I need a bit more detail — because on the DesignJet T630, incorrect paper detection can come from:

  • Paper not aligned on the right reference edge

  • Optical paper-advance sensor contamination

  • Wrong paper category selected in the driver

  • Roll-loader calibration loss

  • Using iOS/Mac apps that override the printer’s front-panel settings

I don’t want to guess, so I need a few specifics:

I need you to confirm the following:

1. Are you printing from:

  • MacBook (macOS)

  • iPhone/iPad (iOS)

  • Or both?

(You mentioned iOS, but also restarting your MacBook — I want to make sure which workflow is failing.)

2. What type of paper/roll are you loading?

  • Plain 80gsm

  • Bond

  • Coated

  • Glossy

  • Heavyweight

  • Non-HP roll?

  • Width (24", 36", etc.)?

The T630 is sensitive to non-HP coated and glossy papers during the detection phase.

3. On the printer’s control panel:

When you load the roll, what happens?

  • Does it ask you to Select Paper Type?

  • Does it mis-read the width (example: you load 36" but it detects 34")?

  • Does it simply say “Paper type: Unknown”?

4. Have you recently cleaned the paper-advance sensor region?

This is the optical sensor under the carriage path — if dust or paper fibers build up, the printer cannot detect width/type properly.

Once you give me these details, I’ll provide the exact resolution steps such as:

  • Correct roll-loading procedure

  • Forcing paper type selection from the front panel

  • Cleaning the left-side paper-edge sensor

  • Resetting the paper-advance calibration

  • Driver settings on macOS that override the printer

If the failure points to the internal sensor assembly, then the only path is depot repair (ship to repair center) — but I won’t assume that until we confirm the details above.
