@Debra51, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

If you're trying to connect your laptop to your HP OfficeJet 6700 and encountering a prompt for a proxy address, it usually means your laptop is trying to access the printer over a network that uses a proxy server (common in corporate or school environments). However, most home networks don’t require a proxy.

Here's how to check or configure proxy settings on the printer:

The HP OfficeJet 6700 does not have a direct setting for proxy configuration on the printer itself. Instead, proxy settings are typically managed on the computer or network, not the printer. However, if you're trying to use Web Services (ePrint, etc.), and it's asking for proxy info, follow these steps:

Disable Proxy in Web Services Setup (if applicable):

  1. On the printer's control panel, tap the ePrint icon or go to Web Services Setup.
  2. If prompted for a proxy address, tap Settings or Advanced Settings.
  3. Look for Proxy Settings.
  4. If you're on a home network, leave the proxy fields blank or set proxy to Off.
  5. Save and exit.

On Your Laptop:

Make sure your laptop is on the same Wi-Fi network as the printer. You can connect the printer using:

  • Wi-Fi Direct (no router needed)
  • Wireless network (via router)
  • USB cable (direct connection)

Connect Printer to Wi-Fi:

If your printer isn’t yet connected to Wi-Fi:

  1. On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Wireless Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  2. Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
