I cannot answer the question about why the printer is suddenly issuing this message.
If you are referring to needing an Instant Ink subscription to print,
The answer is N0 -- you do not need a subscription to an ink service to print.
I realize that knowing that does not solve your problem -- it is simply assurance that you need not run out and subscribe.
