Hi @Josef0176 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with the HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw does not support 5 GHz WiFi; it only supports 2.4 GHz networks. Since your AT&T router is broadcasting a 5 GHz network, your printer won’t be able to connect to it.
Steps to Connect Your HP M1217nfw to Your Mac:
Option 1: Enable 2.4 GHz on Your AT&T Router
- Log into your AT&T router (typically by entering 192.168.1.1 in your web browser).
- Look for WiFi Settings.
- Ensure that the 2.4 GHz band is enabled.
- If your router merges 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz into a single network name (SSID), consider separating them by renaming the 2.4 GHz network (e.g., MyWiFi-2.4G).
- Try connecting your printer to the 2.4 GHz WiFi network.
Option 2: Connect via Ethernet
If you cannot change the router settings or prefer a wired connection:
- Plug an Ethernet cable from the printer to your router.
- On your Mac, go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Click Add Printer and select your M1217nfw from the network list.
Option 3: Use USB Connection
- Connect the USB cable from the printer to your Mac.
- Download the latest HP Easy Start software for Mac from the HP website.
- Follow the installation steps to set up the printer.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
