I have a HP Smart Tank 5100 Printer which worked well and I had been using my iPhone 13 to directly print documents and photos from it for months.
it still worked yesterday but all of a sudden today it failed. It always stucks at “”gathering printer information”.
It shouldn’t be a Wi-Fi issue as all other devices including my husband’s iPhone are still able to connect to the printer and print as usual. I don’t think I have changed any settings on my phone.
I have been deleting and reinstalling the HP smart app as well as updating my IOS to the latest version. It still stuck at “gathering printer information” which it never shown in the past. Could I ask for your kind help…?

Looks like you are using the built-in Print.
Might just be a stuck / hung connection.
Some Ideas - at the least this will eliminate the "easy stuff".
Close the app -
Make sure you are not using your "data" and that you are connected to your Wireless network.
What? Both printer and phone should be connected to the same network.
You could try shutting off your wireless and connecting to your Data plan.
Wait a few seconds - Connect to your local Wireless network.
Try the print job again.
No Joy?
Try Restarting at least your phone and your printer to try and get back that connection.
This means shut off your phone -- just for a couple of minutes..
Restart / reboot your printer - wait for it to completely start up.
Switch on the phone - try your print job again.
No Joy?
CHECK !!
Make sure none of your devices are running Updates (or need updates) or running backups or doing anything that cannot be interrupted.
Next,
Restart your router.
Yes, This will temporarily disconnect everything -- rebooting usually takes just a couple of minutes.
Try your job again...
