Hello, I have a problem installing my Officejet 8615 printer which was working a few weeks ago. I reloaded the driver, used HP Print & Scan Doctor. The printer is visible but no communication with the PC. Thank you for your help.

Hi @JeanGT,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for reaching out—I'm really sorry you're facing this frustrating issue. When a printer shows up but won’t communicate, it can feel like everything’s working except the one thing you need.

Let’s walk through a few steps to help restore that connection.

Step-by-step actions to resolve the issue:

Power Cycle Everything

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from power.
  • Shut down your PC completely.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then power everything back on.
  • This refreshes the USB or network handshake and clears temporary glitches.

Check Connection Type

  • If you're using USB, try a different port and cable.
  • If you're using Wi-Fi, ensure the printer is connected to the same network as your PC.
  • You can confirm this on the printer’s control panel under Wireless Settings > Network Configuration.

Remove and Reinstall the Printer

Use Diagnose & Fix Tool

  • HP’s newer tool is more effective than Print & Scan Doctor.
  • Download it here: HP Diagnose & Fix
  • Run it and follow the on-screen instructions—it checks for driver conflicts, port issues, and spooler errors.

Check Windows Services

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Ensure these services are running:
    • Print Spooler (should be Running and Automatic)
    • RPC (Remote Procedure Call)
    • Device Setup Manager

Firewall or Antivirus Interference

  • Temporarily disable third-party antivirus or firewall software.
  • Some security tools block printer communication, especially over Wi-Fi.

If the issue persists after these steps, let me know how your printer is connected (USB or wireless), and whether it prints from other devices. I’ll guide you further based on that.

You're doing everything right—let’s get this sorted together.
