Please let me know if a company named "geek care "a legitimate support for HP printers? i called HP to say my printer was not working please help and it ended up being a malware removal company...how did this happen?

No —I'm afraid that "Geek Care" is not an official HP support provider.  HP does not outsource consumer printer support to third-party "malware removal" companies.

 

What likely happened:


You probably searched online and clicked a fake HP support ad or website. Scammers run ads that appear as "HP Support" but route callers to paid third-party services.

 

What you should do immediately:

 

  1. Stop sharing information with "Geek Care" and cancel any charges.

  2. Run a malware scan, since they may have requested remote access.

  3. Bookmark HP’s real support page:

  4. If remote access was granted, change passwords for email, banking, and HP accounts.

 

How to avoid this in the future:


Always type support.hp.com directly into the browser -do not, I repeat: DO NOT rely on Google/Bing ads etc. for support phone numbers.
