I have an envy inspire 7958e

I can print from a lap top connected to my network

I cannot print from a desk top connected to the same network

Any ideas how to rectify this?

Hi @Klogman

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must feel when one computer prints smoothly while another refuses to cooperate, even though both are on the same network. Thank you for already confirming that your laptop prints fine—that’s a very helpful step.

Let’s walk through a clear set of actions to bring your desktop into harmony with the printer:

Step 1: Confirm Network Connection

  • On your desktop, ensure it is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your printer.
  • Open Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi and check the SSID (network name). It should match the one your laptop and printer are using.

Step 2: Verify Printer Visibility

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Check if your Envy Inspire 7958e is listed.
  • If it is missing, click Add device and allow Windows to search for it.

Step 3: Use the HP App

  • Install or open the HP App on your desktop.
  • Sign in with your HP account and add the printer.
  • The app will guide you through connecting the printer to your desktop.

You can download the HP App here: HP App for Windows

Step 4: Run Diagnose & Fix

  • Open the HP App.
  • Select your printer, then go to Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • This tool automatically checks connectivity, drivers, and resolves common issues.

Step 5: Check Windows Print Spooler

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll to Print Spooler, ensure it is set to Running and Automatic.
  • If stopped, right-click and choose Start.

Step 6: Test Printing

  • Try printing a test page from Printers & scanners > Manage > Print test page.
  • If successful, your desktop is now aligned with the printer.

If the issue persists after these steps, reinstalling the printer driver through the HP App usually refreshes the connection. Here’s the support page for your model with drivers and guides: HP Envy Inspire 7958e Printer Setup
