Deskjet 2742e
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Hi, I just got the HP desk jet 2742E. I am trying to set it up and I kept getting a window telling me to put my user name and password for my MacBook system keychain. I use the password to that unlock my computer and my Apple ID password but it doesn’t work. I think I might be putting the wrong username in but I don’t know it as well. I Went to the keychain and allowed it to share with the printer but it’s still not working. I contacted Apple support and he told me to reset my computer and turn off my printer but now my printer isn’t popping up to set it up. If anyone can please help, thank you.

@Angeleahdv, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

To assist you better, are you trying to connect the printer to the Mac using a USB cable or wireless?

The credentials for the keychain would be the username and password used to login to the Mac. For more info, refer to - Manage passwords using keychains on Mac

If wireless, you may connect the printer to the network as shown in this document - Connecting an HP Printer Using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)

  • Make sure the printer and the Mac are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.
  • Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.
  • Bonjour locates devices such as printers, other computers, and the services that those devices offer on a local network using multicast Domain Name System (mDNS) service records. The software comes built-in with Apple's macOS and iOS operating systems.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
