Printer shows error code 49. when I tried to reset wireless by pressing wireless button and X button together printer is not responding with purple blinking light. tried powercycling the printer few times still the error 49 appears. wireless mode button tunr on/off not responsive when tried. Tried to connect printer via wired internet connection as well. But printer is not recognized by HP smart app on the laptop. Tried directly connecting to the computer as well. not successful.  Any suggestions to connect the printer atleast directly via USB to a computer or wireless issues. not able to find the IP address as well as it requires connection with HP smart app which does not work.

Hi @san_11,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Error Code 49 on HP printers often indicates a firmware-related issue. Here are some steps to resolve this issue:

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds, then plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on.

Check for Connection Issues:

  • Ensure that the printer is connected to your network if you're using Wi-Fi. If the wireless button isn't responsive, try connecting via a USB cable to isolate the issue.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Visit the HP support website and download the latest firmware for your printer model. Official HP® Support

  • Follow the instructions to update the firmware via USB if possible.

Reset Network Settings:

  • Perform a network reset by pressing and holding the wireless button and the cancel (X) button simultaneously for around 10 seconds or as per your printer's manual.
  • Ensure the printer is in a ready state before attempting this step.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thank you for your suggestions. I tried the following per your suggestions posted above. when I tried to update firmware with USB cable, HP smart App required the printer in ready state. But after power cycling the printer in few minutes amber blinking light with error code 49 comes and not able to send the firmware update to the printer. other options like holding wifi button and X button together not working to reset the wifi. When I turned off the printer and turned on after a minute it is keep searching for wi-fi and after few minutes error code 49 appears. even if I connect the printer with wired internet cable and connected to laptop with USB cable, printer is still searching for wifi and shows error code 49 and not able to update the firm ware. HP App in the laptop shows printer offline .  Please let me know other possible options to resolve this issue. Thank you.
