HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g

It says it not connected, yet I can send something to the printer and it will print.   It won't launch to scan.

Hi @AnnieBell13, Welcome to HP Support Community. 👋

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus is having connectivity issues with scanning while still being able to print. Here are some steps to fix this issue:

Restart Devices

  1. Power off the printer, computer, and router.
  2. Wait 2-3 minutes, then turn them back on.
  3. Try scanning again.

Check Printer Status

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (Windows) or System Settings > Printers & Scanners (Mac).
  • Ensure the printer is not offline or showing an error.
  • If needed, remove and re-add the printer.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)

  1. Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor: Official HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows | Free Download hppsdr.exe
  2. Open the tool, select your printer, and let it diagnose and fix any issues.

Check HP Scan Software

  1. Open HP Smart or HP Scan software.
  2. If it doesn’t detect the scanner, reinstall the HP Full Feature Software:
    • Download from HP Support
    • Install and restart your PC.

Verify Windows Services (Windows)

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Look for:
    • Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
    • HP Network Devices Support
  3. Ensure both are Running and set to Automatic.

Test Scanning via Web Interface

  1. Find your printer’s IP address (Menu > Wireless Settings).
  2. Open a web browser and enter the IP.
  3. Look for the Web Scan option and test if scanning works.

Try a Different Scan Method

  • Use Windows Fax and Scan (Windows) or Image Capture (Mac).
  • Open them and try scanning.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day. 😇
