HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e All-in-One Printer
macOS 26.0 Tahoe

After exhausting ALL troubleshooting steps, including shutting down my router, the printer, etc, but the printer does not stay to my Wi FI… I can get it connected, (I have re—added the printer numerous times.) but it doesn’t stay connected. I have turned off the “sleep setting”, but it seems that when it goes into sleep mode it disconnects. I have changed the IP address, and ALL the other steps suggested.  I am ready to move to another brand printer. This is ridiculous.

What else can I do?

Hi @408V

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for your persistence—your effort to troubleshoot every angle is truly appreciated. Since the HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e still disconnects from Wi-Fi despite all your steps, let’s focus on a few advanced adjustments that can help stabilize the connection, especially during sleep or idle states.

1. Assign a static IP address outside the DHCP range

Even if you've already set a static IP, ensure it's outside your router's DHCP range to avoid conflicts.

  • Access your printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing its IP address into a browser.
  • Go to Network > Wireless > IPv4 Configuration.
  • Select Manual IP and enter:
    • IP Address: something like 192.168.1.250
    • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    • Default Gateway: your router’s IP (e.g., 192.168.1.1)
    • DNS: use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
  • Save and restart the printer.

2. Disable IPv6 on the printer

IPv6 can interfere with network stability in some environments.

  • On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Network Setup > Advanced Settings > IPv6 Configuration.
  • Set IPv6 to Off.
  • Restart the printer.

3. Use the HP App to re-add the printer with Wi-Fi Direct disabled

  • Open the HP App on your Mac.
  • Remove the printer if already added.
  • Re-add it using Add Printer > Network Printer, ensuring Wi-Fi Direct is not selected.
  • If prompted, choose the printer with the static IP you assigned.

4. Adjust router settings (if accessible)

If you have access to your router admin panel:

  • Assign a DHCP reservation for the printer’s MAC address to ensure consistent IP mapping.
  • Disable 5GHz band temporarily and connect the printer to 2.4GHz only.
  • Disable “Smart Connect” or band steering if enabled.
  • Ensure WPA2 is selected as the security protocol (avoid WPA3-only mode).

5. Update printer firmware via HP App

Even if firmware appears current, rechecking ensures no updates were missed:

  • Open the HP App > Select your printer > Advanced Settings (opens EWS).
  • Go to Printer Updates > Check Now.
  • Install any available updates and restart.

6. Prevent macOS from putting the printer to sleep

  • On your Mac, go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your printer > Options & Supplies > Driver.
  • If available, uncheck any setting related to power-saving or sleep.

7. Use the Diagnose & Fix tool in the HP App

  • Open the HP App on your Mac.
  • Select your printer > Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Follow the prompts to scan and resolve connectivity issues.

You’ve done everything right so far, and I understand how exhausting this can be. These final adjustments often make the difference when everything else has been tried. If you'd like help testing the connection after these steps or configuring the HP App for more reliable printing, I’m here to support you.
