HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My HP8710 printer gives me the message - you cannot use the device's wireless function because it has been disabled.  For more information, contact your network administrator or the person who set up the device.  I am that person and the printer was working perfectly the last time I used it.

Hi @Artie81

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

Please follow these steps:

1. Check Wireless Functionality:

  • Power Cycle the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it, wait a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check the Wireless Button: Ensure that the wireless feature is enabled. Look for a wireless button (often depicted with a Wi-Fi symbol) on the printer's control panel. Press it to toggle the wireless feature on.

2. Network Configuration:

  • Network Status: Print a network configuration page from the printer's settings. This can usually be found under the “Setup” or “Network” menu on the printer's display. It will help you see if the printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network.
  • Reset Network Settings: If the printer is not connected to the network, you may need to reset the network settings:
    • Go to the printer’s control panel, navigate to Network > Wireless > Restore Network Settings.
    • After resetting, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network by following the on-screen instructions.
    • To restore the printer to the original network settings
    • 1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).
    • 2. Touch Network Setup.
    • 3. Touch Restore Network Settings. A message appears stating that the network defaults will be restored.
    • 4. Touch Yes.
    • 5. Print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset.

3. Update Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or the HP website:
    • Download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store, connect the printer, and check for firmware updates.
    • Click HERE to update the firmware.

4. Reconnect to Wi-Fi:

  • After resetting the network settings, you’ll need to reconnect your printer to the Wi-Fi network:
    • Use the control panel to find your network and enter the password when prompted

We need to turn on the Web services.
