Hi @billw15,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It seems that your HP 8139e printer is facing connectivity issues after changing to a static IP address from a DHCP one. Although you can ping the device and see it on the router, the printer is not functioning as expected. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Verify IP Address Settings: Double-check that the new static IP address is correctly entered on the printer and is not conflicting with other devices on the network.

Subnet Mask and Gateway: Ensure that the subnet mask and gateway settings are correctly configured on the printer. These settings should align with your network configuration.

Printer Driver Settings: Update the printer settings on your computer:

  • Go to Devices and Printers on your PC.
  • Right-click on your printer and select "Printer Properties."
  • Navigate to the “Ports” tab and ensure that the port configuration reflects the new static IP address.

Network Configuration Page: Print a network configuration page directly from the printer to see the current network settings. This will help confirm that the IP, subnet mask, and gateway settings are as expected.

Firewall and Security Software: Ensure that your PC's firewall or security software is not blocking the printer’s static IP address.

Re-add the Printer: Try removing the printer from your Devices and Printers list and then re-adding it using the correct IP address:

  • Go to Devices and Printers, right-click on the printer, and select "Remove device."
  • Add the printer again by selecting "Add a printer" and using the static IP address.

Network Status: Check the network status on your printer’s control panel. It should indicate that the printer is connected and ready to print.

Reset Network Settings: If all else fails, consider resetting the network settings on the printer and setting up the network connection again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thanks for the reply.

After poking around I reset to the DHCP address and it appears to work.

Strangely, I got it to print just by using control/print. When I went to the app it could not find address. Using the info you supplied I went to Printer Preferences but could not access the info. The check mark was on the WSD Port.

I would like to change the address to a non DHCP number.

HI @billw15,

Thank you for your response.

To change your printer's IP address to a static (non-DHCP) number, you can follow these steps to configure it through the printer's control panel or using the built-in web server interface:

Method 1: Using Printer's Control Panel

Access the Network Menu:

  • On your printer's control panel, press the Menu button.
  • Navigate to the Network Settings option and press OK.

Select TCP/IP (IPv4) Settings:

  • Use the arrow keys to select TCP/IP or Network Setup, depending on your printer model.
  • Select Manual and press OK.

Enter the Static IP Address:

  • Enter the desired static IP address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway using the number keypad.
  • Use the arrow keys to move between fields and the OK button to save each entry.

Confirm Settings:

  • Review the settings to ensure they are correct.
  • Save the changes and exit the menu.

Method 2: Using HP's Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Access the EWS:

  • Open a web browser on a computer connected to the same network as the printer.
  • Enter the current IP address of the printer into the address bar (you can find this by printing a network configuration page from the printer).

Login:

  • You may need to log into the EWS. The default credentials are usually printed in the printer's manual unless changed.

Network Configuration:

  • Go to the Networking tab.
  • Click on IPv4 or TCP/IP Configuration.

Set a Static IP:

  • Change the IP configuration method from DHCP to Manual or Static.
  • Enter the desired IP address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway.

Apply Changes:

  • Confirm and apply your changes.
  • The printer will now use the static IP address you assigned.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

When I open the <Printer Properties> the WSD Port is checked but the IP add does not show. It does show the Printer but no IP information. Should I add a Standard TCP/IP Port or Local Port manually?

I am using IPv4 only do I need to enableIPv6?

When I try to print from Word it crashes the program... Otherwise Word works fine... 😞

With the DHCP address HP Smart takes long time to load, using the web app & firefox info loads fast.

Would error logs help? Is there a way to upload them?

Should I delete and start again?

Thanks for the assistance.
