I have my HP directly wired to my PC. I do not or have i ever used the wifi connection option. i have had no issues , since i only print docs from pc. well my last print was two days ago... now i get printer not connected to internet. it states ...Printer cannot print, except for printer reports. Hp+ printers must be connected to the internet over wifi or ethernet. Reconnect the printer to the internet to reenable printing. i did get a calendar from my pc printed in between 20 printer information reports yesterday lol. so i went the wi fi route even though i do not want this printer wifi connected. i have older dell pc, i have ipad pro, apple iphone and a samsung phone all now with the hp app on them. pushed the button for wifi...great blinking blue. on printer. light bar is blue with quick flash of amber. not one of my devices will pick up this printer. better yet on the hp app  gives me a choice of the 2 printers i supposedly have. i only have the hp6458e. this other HP office jet  8020 pro whatever i have never owned. i have un plugged restarted and blown a vessel in my brain over this. just direct plug and play. i need help

Hi @happihardy13,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that your HP printer suddenly forces you onto a Wi-Fi network. To bypass this and return to a simple, wired USB setup, you need to factory reset the printer's network settings and disconnect it from your router.

Follow these steps to get back to offline printing:

1. Reset the Printer's Network Settings:

  • Make sure your printer is turned on.

  • On the back of your HP DeskJet 6458e, press and hold the Wireless button and the Power button simultaneously for about 3 seconds.

  • Wait for the edge lighting to start blinking purple. This clears the faulty network setup and puts it back into setup/pairing mode.

2. Turn Off Wi-Fi on the Printer:

  • Press the Wireless button (or wireless icon) on the back/control panel to turn the printer's wireless radio completely off so it stops broadcasting or searching for a router.

3. Clear Your HP Smart App:

  • Open the HP app on your phone or tablet.

  • Go to the printer list and long-press or swipe to Remove or Hide the Ghost Printer (OfficeJet 8020) and your current printer.

  • Sign out of the HP app, then sign back in so it only detects your physical printer connected via USB.

4. Check Your PC Connection:

  • Unplug the USB cable from both the printer and the Dell PC.

  • Restart your PC.

  • Once your PC is fully booted, plug the USB cable directly into a different USB port.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
