HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28w

I got an HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28w refurbished and have never been able to connect it to the Wi-fi because I don't know the username and password. I'm assuming the username is admin but I need to reset the password. How do I do that?

@Nicole1002, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since you’ve received a refurbished unit and don’t know the admin password, you’ll need to restore the printer to its factory default settings. This will remove any previous configurations, including the admin password.

Restore Factory Defaults

  1. Turn on the printer and wait until it is in a ready state.
  2. On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons together for about 10 seconds.
  3. The printer will restart and reset its network settings to factory defaults.

This step resets the Wi-Fi settings and admin credentials.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi

After the reset, you can reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi using the HP Smart App:

  1. Download the HP Smart App on your smartphone or PC.
  2. Open the app and click “+” to add a new printer.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

Set a New Admin Password (Optional but Recommended)

Once connected:

  1. Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing the printer’s IP address into a web browser.
  2. Go to the Settings or Security tab.
  3. Set a new admin password to secure your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
