Product NameHP DeskJet 2852e All-in-One Printer
Connectivity (facet)Apple AirPrint™; Google Cloud Print™; USB; Wireless (Wi-Fi®); Wireless direct printing
Connectivity, Std1 Hi-Speed USB 2.0 (device); 1 Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n  (2.4GHz only)

The full driver printer software tolerates a USB-only connection.

and

Neither the HP Smart application nor its replacement HP App, are well suited to a no-network environment.

If you are using HP Smart / HP app, consider (at least) using a Wi-Fi Direct connection.

User Guide - HP DeskJet 2800e DeskJet 4200e All in One Series

Read  Chapter 2 - Connect your printer - Starting on Page 9

and

Section Find the default printer password or PIN - Page 7

-- NOTES --

The user manual was written a while ago.

  • Replace any mention of "HP Smart" with "HP App"
  • Ignore all references to the defunct Print and Scan Doctor software

Wi-Fi Direct

  • Wi-Fi Direct is a limited wireless connection method that uses the wireless radio on your printer to connect to your wireless capable device (for example, your Windows 11 computer).
  • Wi-Fi Direct does not support connecting the printer to the Internet.  This means Wi-Fi Direct cannot be used with Instant Ink, HP+ service (separate animal from Instant Ink), or actions that require access to Cloud services.
  • Wi-Fi Direct is "enough" to support using HP Smart (legacy app) or the HP App in supported devices / OS versions.  Some features will be missing.
  • Your printer's user guide explains how to access and use Wi-Fi Direct as does the HP Document on the subject:   HP printer setup (Wi-Fi Direct)
