Hi @hw445,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One Printer intermittently drops offline, here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Network Connection

  • Wi-Fi Signal: Ensure the printer is in range of your Wi-Fi router and the signal strength is strong.
  • Interference: Move the printer and router away from devices that may cause interference, such as microwaves, cordless phones, or other electronics.

Set a Static IP Address

Assigning a static IP address to your printer can prevent it from dropping offline due to IP conflicts.

  • Access the printer's settings menu on its control panel.
  • Navigate to Network Settings > Wireless Settings.
  • Write down the printer's current IP address.
  • Log in to your router's web interface (check the router manual for the IP address, usually something like 192.168.1.1).
  • Assign the printer's current IP address as static in the DHCP settings of your router.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to the HP support website and check for firmware updates for your Photosmart 7520.
  • Follow the instructions to update the printer's firmware if an update is available.

Check Printer Settings on Your Computer

  • Default Printer: Ensure the Photosmart 7520 is set as the default printer.
  • Printer Status: Go to the Devices and Printers or Printers & Scanners section of your computer settings and ensure the printer isn't set to offline mode.

Restart Devices

  • Power off the printer, router, and computer.
  • Wait for 30 seconds, then turn on the router first.
  • Once the router is fully operational, turn on the printer and the computer.

Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Uninstall the printer drivers from your computer.
  • Download the latest drivers for the Photosmart 7520 from the HP Support website.
  • Reinstall the drivers and re-add the printer to your system.

Disable Sleep Mode (Optional)

  • Ensure that the printer is not going into sleep mode, which can make it appear offline. Adjust the sleep mode settings in the printer's control panel.

 Advanced Troubleshooting

If the issue persists, try these additional steps:

  • Change Wi-Fi Channel: Log into your router and switch to a less congested Wi-Fi channel.
  • Check Firewall/Antivirus: Ensure your firewall or antivirus isn’t blocking the printer’s communication.
  • Use a USB or Ethernet Connection: If Wi-Fi remains unstable, consider connecting the printer via USB or Ethernet to rule out network issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
