Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

OfficeJet Pro 9135e displays a connection problem Printer cannot print until it's connected to the internet over wifi or ethernet. Reconnect the printer to the internet to reenable printing. I have reconnected it to wifi several times. I have turned off and unplugged the printer and shut down the computer to no avail. I also Shut everything down and unplugged the router with no luck. I called the cable company and they say everything is good from their end. Even in the printer settings it says wifi is connected and good. What could be the problem? How can I fix it? . Just checked something else. It says check DNS Settings- the printer is connected to the network, but DNS setting is missing or incorrect, or the server is private. Make sure the DNS settings are correct to allow Internet connection.  How do I do that?

Hi @martic329,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

This is a specific hurdle with HP+ (e-series) printers like your OfficeJet Pro 9135e, which require a constant "heartbeat" connection to HP servers to validate your subscription. Even if your Wi-Fi signal is strong, the "Missing DNS" error means the printer can talk to your router but cannot "find" the internet address for HP, likely because your router's automatic settings are failing to provide a valid gateway.

  1. Print a Network Configuration Page to find your printer's IP address.
    • On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard and touch the Setup (gear) icon.
    • Select Reports and then touch Network Configuration Page to print the document.
    • Locate the IP Address listed on the page (it will look like 192.168.x.x) and write it down.
  2. Access the printer’s web interface to manually override DNS settings.
    • Open a web browser (like Chrome or Edge) on a computer or phone connected to the same Wi-Fi.
    • Type the printer's IP Address into the browser's address bar and press Enter to open the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS).
    • Navigate to the Network tab, select Network Settings or Wireless (802.11), and then click on IPv4 Configuration.
  3. Manually assign Google's Public DNS to the printer.
    • Change the DNS setting from Automatic to Manual (or "Manual DNS Server").
    • In the Preferred DNS Server box, type 8.8.8.8.
    • In the Alternate DNS Server box, type 8.8.4.4, then click Apply and restart the printer to force it to sync with the HP Cloud.

For further help with network errors on HP+ printers, refer to the official HP printer does not connect to HP+ or Instant Ink guide.

Once you entered the manual DNS and restarted, did the "Reconnect the printer" message on the display disappear?

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

while waiting for a reply. I went to menu-tools-maintenance-restore settings-restore network settings. That seemed to work until just now. Now I get a message that C Y M cartridges can only be used in a printer that is currently enrolled in HP Instant ink. I am enrolled in instant ink. What's up? I forgot to mention that I did do a firmware update, the error occurred after that.

I ended up doing a factory reset and reinstalling the printer,

Hi @martic329,

Thanks for the update, and I appreciate you sharing the steps you’ve already tried.

Just to confirm, after performing the factory reset and reinstalling the printer, did that fully resolve the issue? Are you now able to print without seeing the connection or Instant Ink error?

Let me know how it’s behaving now, and we can take the next steps if needed 👍
