printer goes offline

EVERY TIME HP COMPUTER IS UPDATED IT KICKS MY PRINTER OFFLINE. THIS LAST TIME IT WOULD NOT COME BACK ON NO MATTER WHAT I TRY. HP CAN FIX IT BUT THAT'S $ 54.00 I DON'T WANT TO PAY SINCE THEIR UPDATES CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. YOU DON'TGET CD's ANYMORE FOR INSTALLATION SO I CANNOT UNINSTALL IT AND THEN REINSTALL PRINTER APP TO SEE IF THAT WOULD HELP. MY COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE WON'T FILL THE BOTTOM OF A TEA CUP SO IDEAS HAVE TO BE GENTLE ON ME. ANY IDEAS

Depending on your Operating System / version, you can certainly download and install the printer software.

This means, when you wish or need to do so, you can uninstall the software on the computer, restart the computer, and then install a fresh copy of the software.

What?

CD's have not been available for a lot of years -- true, they were very nice.  We all used them.

True, too, CDs were quickly outdated, could not be recycled, and plague the world with tiny shards of CD garbage.

In today's world, the applications and software to use with your printer are available online.

HP does NOT charge for drivers -- if you have been told otherwise, you are not talking to HP. 

Run away from anyone who wants money for drivers.

Run away from anyone who tells you your computer is full of bugs and that you need "protection software".

Rats and vermin.

Printer Software is available for supported Operating Systems -- there is no charge to download and install software.

Software and Drivers for HP DeskJet 4155e All-in-One Printer

Printer Software

If you have not yet done so, install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software.

HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver generally adds at one, possibly least one, possibly two shortcuts to the Desktop: Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and/or HP Scan.

NOTES:  

HP Scan is not installed if the printer does not support Scan.

The Printer Assistant is not installed if the type of full driver software does not support it.  If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver.

No Sign-in required to use full driver printer software.

Reinstalling?

• Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.
• If your printer includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
• Restart the computer and log in.
• If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software – Offline Use Only 

In general, the web pack should load -

Download package > Save > Right-Click on the installation Package > Run as Administrator

If / When asked, opt for the Full Driver / Full Software to be installed.

Using USB?  (Re)Connect when instructed to do so.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least one or more shortcuts to the Desktop.

 Note:  Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and HP Scan are dependent on printer model and supported software options.

• Printer Assistant – Where still supported as part of the full driver printer software
• HP Scan Assistant – For those printers that no longer provide the Printer Assistant
• HP Scan – Shortcut on Desktop named for the printer model
• When installed, HP Universal Scan software adds a separate self-named “HP Scan” shortcut

Printer Assistant shortcut > Tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

HP Scan Assistant shortcut > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

"Offline"

If the printer is bouncing off the network when updates are applied to the computer, it is either something very strange about the updates or perhaps the printer is losing connection with your network.

Offline Condition

Although the printer appears to be switched on, it does not communicate with other devices on your network.

Restart Everything, including the router that controls your network
