Print jobs aren't printing. I can see them in the print queue in settings/printers/queue, but they aren't getting to the printer.

I've re-installed the printer and removed and reinstalled it from my computer. Still nothing.

Can anyone help?

Hi @Rita999,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Restart Print Spooler Service:

  • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
  • Type services.msc and press Enter.
  • Scroll down to find Print Spooler.
  • Right-click Print Spooler and select Restart.

Clear Print Queue:

  • Open the Run dialog (Windows + R).
  • Type control printers and press Enter.
  • Right-click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer and select See what's printing.
  • In the print queue window, click on Printer in the top menu and ensure Pause Printing is unchecked.
  • Select all print jobs in the queue, right-click, and choose Cancel.

Set Printer as Default:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Go to Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710.
  • Click on Manage.
  • Select Set as default.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
  • Enter your printer model (HP OfficeJet Pro 8710).
  • Download and install the latest printer drivers for Windows 11.

Check Printer Connections:

  • Ensure your printer is properly connected to the network or computer via Wi-Fi or USB.
  • Verify that the printer's status is "Online" in Windows Settings.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. This tool automatically diagnoses and resolves printing and scanning issues.

I hope this helps.

Thanks so much for your help. Unfortunately, after going through all those steps, it still isn't working. In fact, when I try to print something, I don't see it in the print queue in settings either.

Hi @Rita999,

Thank you so much for following the steps and getting back to us. I really appreciate your patience!

Since your print jobs are no longer even showing in the queue, let’s dig a bit deeper and try the following:

Run Windows Troubleshooter for Printers

Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.

Scroll to Printer, click Run, and follow the prompts. This can help detect and fix driver conflicts or permission issues behind the scenes.

Manually Clear Spooler Files and Reset Services

Sometimes the spooler gets stuck even if the service is running.

Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.

Find Print Spooler, right-click it, and stop it.

Navigate to:
C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS
and delete all the files inside that folder.

Go back to services.msc and click Start on Print Spooler.

Try printing again.

Create a New Local Port

If the printer isn’t receiving jobs, the port may be corrupt.

Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.

Right-click your printer > Printer Properties.

Click the Ports tab > Add Port.

Choose Local Port, and click New Port.

For the port name, enter:
\\YourComputerName\PrinterShareName
(Replace with actual computer and printer names.). You can find these in the Sharing tab of Printer Properties.)

Test with a Generic or Built-in Driver

Sometimes, using a built-in Windows driver helps bypass bugs:

Go to Devices and Printers > Add Printer.

Select The printer I want isn’t listed. Add a local or network printer with manual settings.

Choose port > Then pick HP on the left and try a driver like

HP Deskjet 990c

Or HP Universal Print Driver

Create a New Local User Account

There may be user profile-level permissions preventing printing.

Create a new local user on your system.

Log in with that profile and try printing again.

If none of these help, it might be worth trying the printer on a different computer entirely. If it works there, the issue is system-specific. If it doesn't, the printer hardware itself might be experiencing internal firmware issues or memory corruption

I hope this helps.
