Hello @Redesdale, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the device.

Thank you for reaching out. I understand how inconvenient it can be when your printer does not respond—especially when you need to print something important. Let’s go through some structured steps that can help identify and resolve the issue.

Steps to Troubleshoot a Non-Responsive Printer

1. Check Printer Status

  • Ensure the printer is powered on.
  • Verify it is properly connected to your computer or network.
  • Check for any error messages or warning lights on the printer’s control panel.

2. Verify Printer Connection

  • Wired Connection: Make sure all cables are securely connected. Try a different USB port or cable if available.
  • Wireless Connection: Confirm the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network by reviewing the network settings on the printer’s control panel.

3. Set the Printer as Default

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer and select Set as default printer.

4. Clear the Print Queue

  • Open Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer and select See what’s printing.
  • Click Printer in the top menu and choose Cancel All Documents to clear any stuck jobs.

5. Restart the Print Spooler Service

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Restart.

6. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool.
  • This utility can automatically detect and fix many common printing issues.

7. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
  • Install them and restart your computer.

8. Check for Software and Firmware Updates

  • Ensure your printer firmware and computer operating system are fully updated.

9. Test with a Different Document or Application

  • Try printing a different file or from another program to rule out issues with a specific document.

Take care and have an amazing day!
