Microsoft Windows 11

I have a new wifi router so I need to set my printer up for wifi printing.  I cannot get into Network Setup because the printer is asking for a password.

I've tried admin, 000000, 123456, 12345678, 0000, 1234

I've looked at every label on the device but there is no PIN.

I would be grateful for some advice please.

Hi @01DCJ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I know how frustrating it is to be locked out of your printer just when you're trying to reconnect it to a new Wi-Fi network. Here's how you can reset your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw and clear the admin password so you can start fresh.

This method will reset all settings, including the admin password and Wi-Fi configuration:

Hard Reset via Touchscreen Panel

  1. Power off the printer.
  2. Power it back on, and as soon as the HP logo appearspress and hold the lower-right corner of the touchscreen.
  3. Keep holding until you see “Permanent Storage Init” or a similar message.
  4. The printer will reboot and restore to factory default settings, including clearing the admin password

After Reset: Reconnect to Wi-Fi

Once the reset is complete:

  1. On the touchscreen, go to Network Setup > Wireless Settings.
  2. Choose Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the prompts to connect to your new Wi-Fi network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
