Hi @rstlne1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how confusing it feels when you’re trying to connect your printer to a Chromebook but can’t locate the Wi‑Fi password for the printer.

You’ve already taken the right step by attempting the connection, so let’s focus on how to retrieve the password and get the printer online smoothly.

How to find your printer’s Wi‑Fi password

1. Print a Network Configuration Page

  • On most HP printers, press and hold the Wireless button until the light blinks, or go to the Wireless Settings menu on the control panel.
  • Select Print Reports > Network Configuration Page.
  • The page will show the printer’s current SSID (network name) and the Wi‑Fi Direct password.

2. Check Wi‑Fi Direct password on the printer display

  • If your printer has a screen, navigate to Wireless > Wi‑Fi Direct > Settings.
  • The password will be listed there.
  • This is the password you’ll enter on your Chromebook when connecting directly to the printer.

3. Use the HP App

  • Install the HP App on your Chromebook from the Google Play Store.
  • Open the app, select your printer, and go to Printer Settings > Wi‑Fi Direct.
  • The password will be displayed in the app.

4. Restore default network settings (if password is unknown)

  • On the printer, press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons together for 5 seconds.
  • This resets the wireless settings.
  • You can then reconnect the printer to your Wi‑Fi network using the setup process.

The most effective immediate actions are to print a network configuration page or check the Wi‑Fi Direct settings on the printer’s control panel or HP App. This will give you the password needed to connect your Chromebook.
