HP desktop on Windows (don't know which version but only a couple of years old)
HP Envy 5032
On same network
All network connections fine
Printer has gone off line. For no reason whatsoever. One minute it was fine and the next it wasn't.
Tried turning everything off right down to the router, rebooted literally everything, all at the same time. Still the same. Nothing works.
Also ran HP Smart diagnostic tool. Managed to print test page but then it just froze again and wouldn't print anything else, saying error state.
This is not normal.

@gill246, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it can be when your printer suddenly goes offline despite being on the same network. Let’s walk through some steps to get your HP ENVY 5032 back online and printing smoothly.
Check Printer Status in Windows
Sometimes Windows sets the printer to "Use Printer Offline" mode.
- On your PC, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
- Right-click on your HP ENVY 5032 and select See what’s printing
- In the new window, click Printer in the menu bar
- Make sure "Use Printer Offline" is unchecked
Set the Printer as Default
- In Devices and Printers, right-click your printer and choose Set as default printer
Assign a Static IP Address
Sometimes printers drop off the network due to dynamic IP changes.
- Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer’s control panel
- Note the current IP address
- Open a browser and enter that IP to access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS)
- Go to Network > Wireless > IPv4 Configuration
- Set it to Manual IP and assign the current IP as static
Reinstall the Printer Driver
Corrupted drivers can cause communication issues.
- Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program
- Remove any HP printer software
- Download the latest full driver package from: HP ENVY 5032 Drivers
- Reinstall and follow the setup instructions
Check for Windows Updates
Make sure your Windows system is up to date:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update
- Install any pending updates and restart your PC
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
