Desk Jet 3755

Hi,

I have a Desk Jet HP3755, and it will NOT connect to the internet. This was not a problem initially, but each time I update either my computer or change my wifi, it is increasingly more idfficult.

Every set of instructions I can find does not give more detailed instructions other than turn everything off and try again. Which, obviously, I did before even looking up instructions. But...there's not really any details I can find for what to do when the printer doesn't automatically, magically connect all by itself.

In the past, I just kept restarting, printing out the data sheet thing, trying again, and I never really knew what worked. Today, I'm not successful printing out the sheet that gives me the WPS info OR connecting to the internet.

My MacBook will connect to the printer itself, but both the printer and my laptop say the printer isn't connected to the internet.

The Virtual Assistant takes me in circles: restart everything, push these buttons, connect to wifi, but no details on HOW to connect to wifi If I am inferring correctly, because the printer is 4 years old, I do not qualify to talk with anyone from HP. Instead, the virtual assistant directed me here.

Can anyone help me out?

Hi @michelle1023 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP DeskJet 3755 is struggling to maintain a stable WiFi connection, which is a common issue after router changes or software updates. Since the usual restart methods haven't worked, let's go through detailed troubleshooting steps to get your printer back online.

Step 1: Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

Since your printer isn’t connecting to WiFi and you can’t print the Network Configuration Report, start by resetting the printer’s network settings.

  1. Turn on the printer if it isn’t already.
  2. Press and hold the Wireless button (📶) and the Cancel button () at the same time for about 5 seconds until the Wireless light blinks.
  3. This resets the printer’s WiFi settings, allowing you to set up the connection from scratch.

Step 2: Reconnect the Printer to WiFi

After resetting, you’ll need to reconnect your printer to your WiFi.

Option 1: Using HP Smart (Recommended)

  1. Make sure your MacBook is connected to the same WiFi you want the printer to use.
  2. Download or open HP Smart (Download Link)
  3. Click the "+" sign to add a printer.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the printer on WiFi.

Note: If HP Smart doesn’t detect the printer, try putting the printer into WiFi Setup Mode again by following Step 1 above.

Option 2: Using WPS (If Your Router Supports It)

If your router has a WPS button, you can connect your printer this way:

  1. Press and hold the Wireless (📶) button on the printer until the WiFi light starts blinking.
  2. Press the WPS button on your router and hold it for 3-5 seconds.
  3. Wait a minute. The WiFi light should turn solid when connected.

If WPS fails, try connecting via HP Smart (Step 2, Option 1)

Step 3: Assign a Static IP (If Issues Persist)

Sometimes, your printer fails to maintain a stable connection because your router assigns a different IP address every time. Assigning a Static IP can help:

  1. Print a Network Configuration Report (if you get WiFi connected but it still won’t show online).
    • Press the Information button (ℹ️) and the Cancel button () together to print the report.
  2. Look for the IP Address under "WiFi Settings."
  3. Type the IP Address into your browser’s address bar.
  4. In the HP Embedded Web Server, go to Network > Wireless and set a Manual IP using your router’s details.

Step 4: Restart Everything

After following the steps above, turn off and restart:

  • Your printer
  • Your router
  • Your MacBook

Then, try printing again.

Extra Tips if Issues Persist

  1. Disable 5GHz WiFi on your router (your printer supports only 2.4GHz).
  2. Ensure your MacBook and printer are on the same network (avoid guest networks).
  3. Check your firewall settings—sometimes security software blocks the connection.
  4. Try connecting via USB first, then enable WiFi through the HP Utility on your Mac.

I hope this helps.
