Hi @JohnP682,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We know how frustrating it feels when your HP printer simply refuses to connect to the internet. You expect it to slip onto your network quietly, almost effortlessly… but instead, it sits there still and silent, unable to reach the outside world. You’re not alone. This is one of the most common challenges customers face, and we’ll walk through the exact HP steps to get your printer connected again.

Let’s bring your printer back online together.

Step 1: Check the Wi‑Fi Light on the Printer

This tiny light tells us exactly what the printer is feeling:

  • Blinking blue → searching for a network
  • Solid blue → connected
  • Amber / blinking amber → cannot connect
  • No light → Wi‑Fi is off

If the light is dark or amber, continue below.

Step 2: Reset the Printer’s Wireless Settings (Important)

This clears the old network stored inside the printer.

Most HP printers use this simple combination:

Press and hold:

Wireless Button + Cancel (X) for 5 seconds

The wireless light should start blinking, which means your printer is now in Setup Mode, ready to join a new network.

You may hear a soft whir or gentle click inside the printer; that’s normal.

Step 3: Reconnect Using the HP App

Your printer must be connected through the HP app for full internet functionality.

Download or open HP App:👉 HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site

Inside HP App:

  1. Tap Add Printer
  2. Wait for “Setup” or your printer model to appear
  3. Select your Wi‑Fi network
  4. Enter the password

HP Smart will walk your printer back onto your network step‑by‑step.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
