Installed new Netgear Nighthawk router. Everything else in household connects to network except HP Officejet Pro 8610 printer. Router sees the printer. Printer sees the network, just won't connect. Not sure what to do at this point. Suggestions?

Hi @KMRBTM,

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 will not connect to the Wi-Fi network after installing a new Netgear Nighthawk router, even though both the router and printer can see each other. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Perform a full power reset
Turn off the printer and unplug its power cord from the wall.
Restart the router and wait until it is fully online, then plug the printer back in and power it on.

Restore the printer’s network settings
On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Defaults.
This clears old router information stored from the previous network.

Reconnect the printer using Wireless Setup Wizard
From the printer control panel, open Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Setup Wizard.
Select your new Wi-Fi network and carefully re-enter the Wi-Fi password.

Check router Wi-Fi band settings
Ensure the router’s 2.4 GHz band is enabled, not just 5 GHz.
The OfficeJet Pro 8610 can only connect to 2.4 GHz networks.

Temporarily disable advanced router security
In the router settings, temporarily turn off MAC filtering, Access Control, or WPA3.
Set security to WPA2-PSK (AES) during setup, then retry connecting the printer.

Move the printer closer to the router
Place the printer within a few feet of the router during setup.
This helps avoid signal negotiation failures during the initial connection.

Assign the printer a fresh IP address
After reconnecting, print a Network Configuration Page from the printer.
Confirm it receives a valid IP address and does not show “Disconnected” or “169.x.x.x”.

Use HP Smart to finish setup
Install or open HP Smart on a computer or phone connected to the same Wi-Fi.
Use “Add Printer” to complete the connection and finalize network communication.

Restart the computer and test printing
Once the printer shows “Connected” on its control panel, restart the computer.
Print a simple test page to confirm stable connectivity.

I hope this helps.
