I connected the printer with the usb wire to avoid wireless issues. But I started to print a 16 pages document and there is a 30 seconds pause between each page. What can explain that it takes so long?

Hi @MFdub,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing with significant delays between printing each page over a USB connection can be caused by several factors. Here are some potential explanations and troubleshooting steps you can take:

Printer Buffering: Some printers have limited internal memory or buffer space. If the documents you are printing are high in resolution or complexity (like large images or detailed PDFs), the printer may need extra time to process each page. You can check if lowering the print quality in the printer settings speeds up the process.

Driver Issues: Printer drivers that are outdated or corrupt can lead to poor performance. Ensure that your printer's drivers are up-to-date. Visit the manufacturer's website, find your printer model, and download the latest drivers.

USB Cable or Port Problems: A faulty USB cable or a problematic USB port can cause slow data transmission. Try using a different USB cable or another USB port on your computer to see if that resolves the issue.

Print Spooler Service: The print spooler service on your computer might be struggling to handle the print jobs efficiently. Restarting the print spooler service can sometimes resolve these kinds of issues:

  • Go to the Start Menu, type "services.msc", and press Enter.
  • Scroll down to find "Print Spooler".
  • Right-click it, select "Restart". If it’s stopped, start it.

Complex Document Files: Some document formats or the way documents are structured (like multiple layers or embedded high-resolution images) can cause slow printing. Try printing a different, simpler document to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is document-specific.

Printer Settings: Check the printer settings both on your computer and on the printer itself. Some settings related to data processing or quality enhancement might slow down the printing. Settings like "high quality" or "maximum dpi" increase processing time.

Computer Performance: If your computer is running slow or has many applications open, it might affect the speed of processing print jobs. Ensure your computer has sufficient resources (RAM, CPU) available to handle printing tasks.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
