HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Downloaded the new HP printer app which replaces the HP Smart app.  When I print, I get a print notification.  It reads as follows: Error printing on HPxxxxx (HP Officejet Pro 9010 series).  The printer couldn't print **bleep** ...  Although I get this notification, the print job still prints.  Basically the print will start and then about 30 seconds later the notification appears.  Did some research on AI and did the following suggestions:  Run the HP Diagnose and fix tool = No errors found.  Clear out the Ghost Print Queue (windows) = did not correct the issue and maybe 1 or 2 more I cant remember.  In any case, I could not correct the issue which still occurs today.  Also set my printer up as the default, however when I go to print things, it comes up with the fax printer first.  As you might know you can never see the full name cause the window is so small so you dont see the word fax until you realize there is no printing.  I have also had the print on both sides setting changed to print each page on its own.  I attempted a relatively easy fix suggestion and the printer did not communicate until I rebooted the computer.  Afterwards the notification still occurred

So I am wondering if somehow my download and install got corrupted?  Is there another fix to try that is not so technical?  Is it time to re-install the app and If I do that do you think it will fix the issue???

If you suggest reinstall, can you provide steps?  I believe I can just uninstall via control panel and then go back to microsoft store to reinstall.  If I am missing something for reinstalling, let me know.

The problem has been here since I install the new HP app.

Appreciate any help and suggestions to correct the issue since I cannot speak with HP directly.

Hello @Rick5358, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand why this is confusing, especially since the document does print successfully and the error notification appears about 30 seconds later.

The fact that HP Diagnose and Fix finds no problem and the print job completes suggests that the printer itself is able to receive and process the job. The delayed error notification is more consistent with a Windows/HP printing configuration or communication-status issue than with a basic printer hardware failure.

Reinstall the HP app and printer

I recommend doing the following in this order:

  1. Remove the printer from the HP app.
  2. Open the HP app, select your OfficeJet Pro 9015, scroll to the bottom, and choose Remove from app if that option is available. HP's current Windows guidance recommends removing the printer from the HP app before uninstalling the software.
  3. Uninstall the HP app.
  4. In Windows 11:
  5. Settings → Apps → Installed apps
  6. Find HP (the new HP app), select the three dots, and choose Uninstall.
  7. You do not need to worry about damaging the printer by uninstalling the app. The app is software on the computer; removing it does not reset or remove the printer's hardware configuration.
  8. Remove the existing printer from Windows.
  9. Go to:
  10. Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners
  11. Select the HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series printer and choose Remove.
  12. If you see a separate HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series Fax entry, remove that as well if you do not use PC faxing. Windows supports removing the printer directly from Printers & scanners.
  13. Restart the computer.
  14. This is important because it allows Windows to release the previous printer connection and printing components before the printer is installed again.
  15. Reinstall the HP app.
  16. Download the current HP app from the Microsoft Store or HP's official setup page, then open it and add the OfficeJet Pro 9015 again. HP's current documentation also notes that the HP Smart Printing driver may remain installed separately when the HP app is uninstalled, so removing and re-adding the printer is useful when rebuilding the printing configuration.
  17. Print a simple test document.
  18. Before testing a large document or changing advanced print settings, print something simple such as a one-page document from Notepad. This helps determine whether the basic Windows-to-printer path is working correctly.

About the Fax printer appearing first

The Fax entry is a separate Windows printer queue; it does not mean your OfficeJet Pro 9015 is configured incorrectly.

  1. To prevent Windows from selecting the wrong printer:
  2. Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
  3. Select Printer preferences.
  4. Turn Let Windows manage my default printer Off.
  5. Select the HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series printer—not the Fax entry.
  6. Select Set as default.
  7. Microsoft specifically recommends turning off Let Windows manage my default printer when you want to manually choose a permanent default printer.
  8. Also, when you open the Print dialog in an application, check the selected printer before printing. Some applications remember the last printer used independently of the Windows default printer.

If the delayed error still appears after reinstalling

  1. If the printer prints normally but the same “Error printing” notification still appears after a clean reinstall, I would not reinstall Windows or repeatedly reinstall the HP app.
  2. At that point, the next useful check is the Windows printer queue:
  3. Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series → Open print queue
  4. Make sure there are no old jobs remaining. Microsoft also recommends restarting the Print Spooler service when Windows reports printing errors even though the printer is otherwise available.
  5. You can also test printing from another application. If Notepad prints successfully but a particular application generates the delayed error, the problem may be specific to that application's print settings rather than the HP app or printer.

About the two-sided printing setting

  1. The change from Print on both sides to Print each page separately is a separate print-preference issue. After reinstalling the printer, check:
  2. Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series → Printing preferences
  3. Then set Print on both sides / Duplex to the option you want.
  4. Reinstalling the printer can reset stored Windows print preferences, so it is worth checking this setting after the new installation.

Have a great day!
