Yes, we have to do a "tap dance" to make sure that our laser printer connects and scans to our desk top.  All of the usuals have been tried.  Advice further?

Thanks

@417Jo, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding scanner connection issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand how frustrating it can be to go through multiple steps just to get your HP laser printer to connect and scan properly. Let’s go through a few additional troubleshooting steps to ensure a smooth connection:

Check Connection & Restart Devices

  • If using Wi-Fi, restart your router and ensure the printer is connected to the correct network.
  • If using USB, try a different port and cable.
  • Restart both your computer and printer to refresh connections.

Reinstall Printer Drivers & Software

  • Uninstall the current HP printer software from your PC.
  • Download and install the latest HP Smart App or full-feature drivers from the HP Support website.
  • During installation, follow the prompts to reconnect your printer.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP website.
  • This tool automatically detects and fixes common connection and scanning issues.

Firewall & Security Software Check

  • Temporarily disable firewall or antivirus software to see if it's blocking the printer.
  • If scanning works with it off, adjust firewall settings to allow HP services.

If the issue persists, could you share more details? For example:

  • Are you seeing any error messages?
  • Is the issue with printing, scanning, or both?
  • What operating system are you using?

Looking forward to helping you resolve this!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
