already have printer " hard-wired" to pc with installation software. Purchased a new wireless HP laptop . Can I have the pc still hard-wired and the laptop connected wireless ( thru router ).

Do I need to download software to laptop ?

Turn on " wifi " enable on printer panel, etc...?

Do I change wired pc to wifi enable set-up ?

Do you mean hardwired as a network or a USB connection. If USB you will either need to share the printer on your other computer or configure the wireless portion of your printer. If the printer is connected to your wired network,  and If the wired and wireless segments of your network are using the same address pool. (normally the case with a home router) then you simply need to run the install software on your laptop and it should find the printer. Check the IP address of the laptop and the printer. If they are both the same except for the last three digits then they are on the same network segment. As an example printer IP address is 192.168.10.222  and your laptop is 192168.10.121 then they will communicate. The first 3 sets of numbers must be the same, or it will take advanced configuration to make it work. You can also try using the ping command to confirm that the laptop and see the printer on the network.

Big thxs..  Right now printer software is on desktop pc - hardwired to router....printer is USB cabled to pc...

 

Adding 2 HP laptops ( wifi to " home " network.... ) thru the router....

Want to add these new laptops via the wifi to the printer - so I am installing the HP printer software on the new laptops and follow the wireless set-up ?

Is there any wifi configurations on the printer panel to change ? If I redo the ENABLE change , is the wired pc still functionable ?
