@ShirlyB, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds really frustrating, but don't worry, we can fix this.

Your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw is remembering the old Wi-Fi and auto-connecting because the old settings are still stored in its memory.

To set it up on a new Wi-Fi, you need to completely reset its wireless settings first.

Here’s exactly what to do:

Reset the Network Settings on the Printer

  • On the printer control panel, press the Setup button (it looks like a gear ⚙️).
  • Use the arrow buttons to go to Network Setup and press OK.
  • Scroll to Restore Network Defaults → Press OKConfirm Yes.

(This will erase the old Wi-Fi settings completely.)

Reconnect to New Wi-Fi

After reset, on the control panel:

  • Go back to Network SetupWireless Setup Wizard → Press OK.
  • It should now scan for available Wi-Fi networks and show you the list.
  • Select your new Wi-Fi name (SSID) → Enter the password carefully → Connect.

Important tip:
If you don't see "Wireless Setup Wizard" or it won't list networks, sometimes you need to power cycle the printer after the reset (turn it off, unplug it for 30 seconds, then turn it back on).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

@ShirlyB, Thank you for your response.

Since Restore Network Defaults isn't even appearing (or is ineffective), your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw might be stuck in a "semi-configured" state — often caused by HP's "Auto Wireless Connect" feature or by a prior setup lock.

Please try these steps,

1. Turn the printer OFF.

2. Press and hold these two buttons at the same time:

  • Wireless button (📶 icon)
  • Cancel button ( icon)

3. While holding those buttons, power the printer ON (press the power button).

  • Keep holding Wireless + Cancel for about 15–20 seconds until the printer lights flash or a Reset message appears.

4. Release the buttons when you see the printer starting a reset.

After this factory reset, the printer should:

  • Forget all old Wi-Fi settings.
  • Boot into first-time setup mode (like it's brand new).
  • Allow you to pick Wi-Fi manually again (through Wireless Setup Wizard).

I hope this helps!

If my response resolves your issue, please click “Accepted Solution” to help others find the answer. Also, don’t forget to click the “Yes” button to say thanks!

Take care and have a great day.
